Registered Nurse (RN) - Virtual Care Nursing

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) after review of the application. English Language Proficiency: in accordance with 38 U.7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency; Or individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree may be eligible to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program.

Upon achieving a state license the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment after successful completion of the bridge program.

For graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a nurse who has completed an associated degree or entry‑level nursing education program.

Credit for foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree or entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).

Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia.

Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception – candidates who meet the basic education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed at the entry step with a 120‑day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis).

Duties The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting Registered Nurses to provide care to Veterans within the Mental Health Nursing Service. This position can be located in any Inpatient Mental Health unit.

Mental Health staff nurses provide care to patients with complex acute or chronic psychiatric conditions, cognitive impairments, or acute withdrawal from substance abuse.

Knowledgeable of the commitment process and related legal issues surrounding care of committed patients, including elopement and ground searches.

Utilizes the nursing process – assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation to deliver care.

Conducts basic physical, psychological, and social assessments, prioritizes care needs, documents outcomes, and revises care plans as necessary.

Implements the plan of care, manages patient assignments, and demonstrates required safety skills in emergency preparedness and related procedures.

Documents nursing process, including patient/family education and discharge planning, accurately and timely per policy.

Administers and documents medications and treatments, implements orders, and ensures safe care while conserving resources.

Complies with professional standards of practice and patient care standards.
