Laboratory-Phlebotomist, Day Shift

3 4-hour shifts 5am -9am 1 8-hour shift 5:30 -2 every Saturday30am -2pm

The Outreach Phlebotomistperforms all venipunctures and capillary collection on patients and transports all specimens to the Laboratory. Settings include physician’s offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home draws.

Performs EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients as required.

Performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures on patients using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques.

Review requisition and orders from physicians to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and tests meet guidelines for Medical Necessity. Prepares Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines and obtains appropriate signatures from patient and self.

Performs EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing procedures as requested and associated quality control and maintenance of instrumentation.

Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging.

Provides essential patient data and insurance information for registration of specimens. May create registration for outreach specimens in Hospital Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) system.

High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized program for training in phlebotomy or prior documented experience performing phlebotomy.

Flex, maybe required to work and travel to lother locations and campuses per the needs of the department.
