PHLEBOTOMIST III - BILINGUAL

Shift: 8:30 A.M. - Grant 2025 CCH Ryan White Title IV-PT D Shift: 8:30 A.M. - Salary is commensurate with years of experience indicated at time of application. Under general supervision, the phlebotomist draws blood from patients and performs related phlebotomy services. The role requires skill and tact in various settings, including emergency situations and patients who may be experiencing pain or discomfort. Responsibilities include identifying patients, labeling and packaging specimens, delivering specimens to appropriate sites, performing bleeding and coagulation times, operating laboratory equipment, and assisting with telephone and shift coverage.

Procure blood specimens by collecting samples using standard techniques and equipment.

Exercise skill and tact when dealing with patients in emergencies or those experiencing pain or discomfort.

Apply tourniquet, locate accessible vein, swab puncture area with antiseptic, and insert needle to withdraw blood into collection device.

Notify nursing or medical staff of any signs of adverse reaction such as dizziness or distress.

Assemble and maintain equipment (tourniquet, needles, collection devices, gauze, cotton, alcohol, etc.).

Ensure accuracy in labeling, sorting, and recording specimens. Deliver specimens to drop‑off site or testing area promptly and respond to emergencies as required.

Execute written or verbal instructions and seek assistance when necessary.

Assist in teaching proper blood‑drawing procedures to colleagues and students.

Help with store‑keeping and inventory; Help with dispatching, scheduling, or relieving other staff for telephone and unit coverage.

High School diploma or GED (must provide proof at interview).

Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training program, or one year of full‑time phlebotomy experience in a hospital or health‑care setting (official transcripts required).

Bilingual in Spanish (passing score of 3 - High Intermediate on testing).

Accepted venipuncture/phlebotomy training program completion.

Two or more years of full‑time phlebotomy experience in a hospital or health‑care setting.

Proficiency with tourniquet application, vein locating, antiseptic swabbing, and needle insertion.

Skill with laboratory equipment and related information systems.

Ability to collect specimens in diverse circumstances, including emergencies.

Skill with related equipment (tourniquets, needles, gauze, etc.).

Ability to interact with children and adults under various conditions, including emergencies.

Ability to instruct others on proper blood‑drawing techniques.

Accuracy in labeling, sorting, and record‑keeping.

Work effectively within schedules and emergencies.

Follow written or verbal instructions and seek assistance when needed.

Assist with inventory and report supply needs.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Position located in a healthcare environment. The incumbent must comply with all hospital and department safety requirements, including PPE, hand hygiene, engineering controls, and other relevant policies.
