The UHealth Laboratories Department at UHealth/University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Histotechnologist 3.
The Histotechnologist 3 acts as a laboratory professional who prepares tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. The incumbent utilizes laboratory and hospital systems to access data and perform other appropriate system functions. Maintains and reviews quality control in assigned laboratory facilities.
Determines the acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
Maintains all equipment and places orders for reagents and materials.
Participates in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
Makes recommendations for improvement of laboratory functions.
Handles clinical and patient concerns in a confidential manner employing integrity and discretion.
Identifies and resolves problems with equipment and specimen integrity. Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Associate’s degree in relevant field
Current Florida Medical Technologist License Histotechnologist

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Assign and record surgical numbers accurately.
Change processing solutions daily as outlined in the laboratory procedure manual. Monitor and document processing times and ensure correct tissue processing schedules are followed. Verify and record paraffin temperature settings to maintain optimal performance.
Confirm microtome settings to ensure tissue blocks are cut at the designated micron thickness. Monitor and maintain proper water bath temperature and cleanliness. Assign surgical numbers and prepare cassettes properly. Examine frozen sections for quality, correcting artifacts such as folds or tears before release.
Quality Verification
Review all slides prior to pathologist review to ensure complete, fully faced sections with no missing parts or quality deficiencies.
Evaluate control slides for quality and accuracy. Adhere strictly to all procedures outlined in the Anatomic Pathology Procedure Manual. Maintain documentation, safety, and quality control standards as required by CAP, CLIA, and institutional policies.
