RN Hospital - Orthopedics PRN

SMMC is seeking a skilled and compassionate PRN Registered Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical team in the heart of Idaho's mountain country. The Medical-Surgical RN provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; following facility standards of care set by the State Board of Nursing and other governing agency regulations. Possess knowledge and skills regarding nursing principals and practice.

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies; make nursing decisions within the scope of licensure.

Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as per physician order.

Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions and health management.

Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR).

Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.

Monitor patient progress, document assessments and adjust care plans accordingly.

Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions.

Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Attend 75% of nursing staff meetings and other available in-service education that pertain to professional growth and development.

Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.

Promote patient independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patients, friends, and family to understand their condition, medications, and self‑care skills; Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Delegate and oversee tasks delegated to nursing assistants, ESTs and Unit Clerks.

Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.
