Care Home Nurse (nights)

Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry
This is a float pool position based in one facility but requires floating to another facility. The telemetry unit has a total of 31 beds. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 4. Electronic medical records (EMR) system is used. There will always be a shift manager and a resource RN or a charge nurse and resource RN on duty. Charge nurses will not take a patient assignment. Typically, there are two nurse aides on for days and one for nights, depending on patient census. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule, covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, as well as Saturday and Sunday days. Holidays are also required, including one major and one minor holiday. Scrub color is navy. Telemetry monitors are made by Phillips. Monitor techs are present on each unit and will read strips for RN sign-off. Nurses are required to be proficient in reading strips. Common drips used include amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin; however, titration is not required. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and pharmacy services are also available around the clock. Shifts are 12 hours long with various start and end times, and no block scheduling is provided. Floating responsibilities include working tele or med-surg units, and possibly floating to the emergency room for holds. Floor-specific orientation includes one shift on the home unit and an orientation at the floating unit. The patient population includes high-acuity cases such as pneumonia, end-stage renal disease, post-cath lab patients, respiratory distress, heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The nursing staff enable a primary care approach while managing the ward. Unit resources are limited, and nurses are expected to handle a busy workload. Travelers should have two to three years of experience, and travel experience is preferred. A positive attitude and compassion are essential traits for this role. Nurses must have experience with infusions and the ability to read telemetry strips. The floating unit comprises telemetry, med-surg, and direct observation units with a total of 50 beds. Ratios vary depending on unit designation: 1 to 5 for med-surg, 1 to 4 for telemetry, and 1 to 3 for direct observation units. Nurse aides are available based on patient census. The ability to read telemetry strips is required, along with proficiency in administering non-titrating drips. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7 in this facility. Self-scheduling is implemented for shifts, although it is not guaranteed. Common diagnoses include post-surgical, orthopedic, and cardiac patients. The facility reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
