Paraeducator (Stall Brook Elementary) - 2 Positions
Bellingham Public Schools - Stall Brook Elementary School, Bellingham, Massachusetts.
Starting Date: August 24, 2026.

Job Description
Scheduled for ten (10) months, 184 days, following the school calendar. Hours include 35 hours per week (7 hours per day) for BMS/BHS or 33.75 hours per week (6.75 hours per day) for Preschool/Elementary/KMA.

Qualifications

Passing score on the ParaPro Test or another state‑approved assessment, or an associate degree (waiving the test).

Associate’s degree preferred.

Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff.

Prior experience with children in a school setting, preferred.

Evidence of emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.

Physical ability to move in and out of offices and classrooms, climb stairs, kneel, and lift or carry materials up to 20 pounds (or, with assistance, up to 75 pounds).

Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and respect for confidentiality; sensitivity to child issues; resourceful, thorough, initiative, patient, courteous, dependable, and enthusiastic.

Willingness to learn and use Assistive Technology.

Proficiency with online platforms such as Google Meet and Google Classroom.

Acceptance of alternative qualifications deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools.

Reports To
Principal, BCBA, Director of Student Services, or a designated designee.

Performance Responsibilities

Assist the teacher with direct, indirect, and general instructional support.

Support selection, utilization, and management of educational materials and supplies.

Help administer achievement, diagnostic testing, and behavior modification programs.

Aid in classroom management, addressing student behavior, and encouraging effort.

Supervise students during school activities and regular hours; assume teacher responsibility in their absence.

Provide flexibility across multiple classrooms and school environments.

Participate in required staff development and professional development activities.

Prepare for instructional events and other educational or non‑educational activities under a certified teacher’s supervision and in accordance with students’ IEPs.

Implement support strategies and interventions developed by the teacher or BCBA to reinforce skills based on individual student needs.

Serve as a positive role model, treating students with respect and dignity.

Directly work with children to support academic, social, self‑care (ADLs), and vocational skill development.

Reinforce generalization of skills and community integration.

Complete onboarding, district policies, procedures, and annual mandatory trainings.

Act as a resource person to communicate specific instruction and goal attainment to teachers.

Contribute to behavioral interventions and obtain Safety Care certification (full restraint training provided).

Implement treatment, health, safety, and behavior plans for students, ensuring a safe and successful learning environment.

Collect data as required.

Collaborate with team members, including BCBA and RBT staff.

Apply ABA strategies with provided training.

Assist with toileting or lifting certain students with disabilities per IEP, when required.

Perform any other duties directed by the Principal, BCBA, and/or Director of Student Services.

Additional Duties

Reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.

Support self‑help and independence skills.

Implement remedial and review exercises, practice, and drill work as outlined by the teacher.

Aid in independent study, enrichment, or remedial work.

Help students master instructional tasks and assist with test taking or instructional technology use.

Observe and document student performance and behaviors.

Implement curriculum modifications or accommodations designed by professional staff.

Escort and supervise student movement throughout the school and during transportation.

Proctor testing and provide make‑up work assistance.

Supervise students during breaks, lunches, community trips, fire drills, assemblies, and other assigned duties.

Set up and operate instructional or assistive technology equipment under teacher direction.

Participate actively in professional development activities appropriate to district expectations.

Perform other general duties as indicated by school leadership and district policies.

Job Requirements

At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.

Associate degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
