Nurse Hospital Care - Surgery RN

Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for our PreOp and Phase II areas to support patients undergoing a wide range of surgical and procedural interventions. As a key member of our Healthcare & Medical Services team, you will provide safe, compassionate, and evidence‑based nursing care to patients and families throughout the pre‑operative and Phase II post‑anesthesia experience. You will conduct comprehensive pre‑operative assessments, verify medical histories and medications, confirm informed consent, initiate IV access, administer ordered medications, and provide clear education to patients and families about what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, PACU staff, and the broader interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless communication, safe handoffs, and timely patient flow.

Use the electronic medical record to document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and efficiently.

Prepare patients for discharge from Phase II, reinforcing instructions on medications, wound care, activity restrictions, follow‑up appointments, and when to seek urgent medical attention.

Respond effectively to emergencies and postoperative complications.

Commit to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement.

Strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency with IV therapy and medication administration, and a solid understanding of perioperative and post‑anesthesia nursing principles.

Experience as a Registered Nurse in acute care with strong perioperative and post‑anesthesia patient care experience.
