Handles day-to-day tasks of preparing and staining tissue, with close attention to equipment and detail. Perform gross examination of simple biopsies (if CAP/CLIA qualified), tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, cover slipping, and frozen sectioning efficiently according to established policies, procedures, and protocols in a high-volume academic environment. Maintain accurate records of quality assurance and quality control. Maintain all laboratory equipment safely and efficiently, following established guidelines. Perform specimen accessioning, including all manual and computerized data entry. Knowledgeable in general laboratory practices and programs. Professional and collegial communication skills necessary to work closely with peers in an academic teamwork environment. Training new students/hires. Associate degree, vocational training, or a high school diploma with related work experience.
Some histology laboratory experience.
Knowledge of relevant aspects of Surgical Pathology (grossing if CLIA qualified).
Histology laboratory experience required.
Professional and collegial communication skills to work closely with peers in an academic teamwork environment.
HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification desired, or an equivalent combination of clinical histology experience.

High Complexity Testing (CLIA grossing, immunohistochemical stains, direct immunofluorescence, and EM)-Require the following qualifications listed below to perform-

• An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
• Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following: * This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND * Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and currently hold the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician).

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. This full time, 40 hour position is on the night shift, M-F but may require rotating weekends, holidays and on-call with other staff.
Works with infectious disease and/or hazardous materials. May have exposure to noise from laboratory equipment.
