Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)REQUIRED: Must upload a copy of high school diploma, GED, or unofficial transcripts.**LPN license required.LOCATION: Washington ElementaryHOURS/DAYS: 7.0/190 (Prorated for the 2026-2027 school year)BENEFITS: Non Rep (190-220 Day) Benefit SheetStudent support for medically fragile special education student.Position based on student enrollment.Sunnyside School DistrictJOB DESCRIPTIONREPORTS TO: Principal and or Director of Student Support ServicesUNIT CLASSIFICATION: Non-represented/HourlyPRIMARY PURPOSE:The position is responsible for administering to the individual health needs of students; implementing health care plans for students with special health needs; and following the assigned school's health services program based on requirements established by school policies, procedures and protocols, and by local, state and national regulations and statutes.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:Maintain accurate health records of all students and provide care for students in the health room.Administer first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.Document all health care provided to students in a timely manner.Distribute/implement health protocols as directed by a District Registered Nurse.Provide immediate care in case of injury or sudden illness.Notify District Registered Nurse in case of an outbreak of disease.Follow Individual Health Care Plans and 504 Plans for students.Assist with programs and/or activities (e.g. hearing/vision screening, health education, registration, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health and educational requirements and providing information and guidance to others.Provide care for students with special physical needs as needed after receiving training and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (including but not limited to catheterization, insulin administration, and gastrostomy tube feedings).Maintain/track student immunization records.Verify that medication authorization forms and self-carry medication forms are complete for all medications per District policy.Check for medical conditions and medications prior to field trips. Provide teachers with necessary information. Verify that a trained staff person is assigned to attend field trip as needed.WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:The position includes frequent contact with students, staff, and parents. Must be able to work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds. Required to confer regularly with immediate supervisor and follow District policies, and work procedures. Maintain the integrity of confidential information related to students, staff, or District patrons.WORKING CONDITIONS:Requires standing, sitting, repetitive hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching. Ability to lift students as required and has the stamina to stand all day, every day of the week as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Two (2) years of post-secondary education or an Associate's (or higher) Degree requiredOne to three years of nursing experience preferredRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid and emergency medical needs of injured or medically fragile students; adhering to safety practices; applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; utilize database systems for maintaining health-related records.KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; children's immunization status; community health resources; health standards and hazards; Nurse Practice Act; and RCWs pertinent to school health care. Knowledge of general office practices and use of word processing, Email, and related tools.ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
