IMMEDIATE HIRE FOR REGISTERED NURSE / RN SHIFT CARE

JOB DESCRIPTION The position of IFT-RN involves knowledge of in-depth pathophysiologic concepts, pharmacological applications, and utilization of advanced medical skills. The IFT-RN provides high-quality, advanced critical care to all patients by utilizing standards and guidelines established by Survival Flight EMS and its Medical Directors. Critical thinking, independent decision-making, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential characteristics and skills that the Paramedic must possess to be successful in this role. The IFT-RN functions as a professional representative of Survival Flight EMS and shall always support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Survival Flight while ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain a positive customer service approach with all customers and potential clients.
Maintain and facilitate a cooperative and team-oriented working relationship with coworkers.
Keep a neat and professional appearance while on duty and during any functions where Survival Flight EMS is represented.
Promote effective communication by utilizing good communication in a respectful manner.
Serve as a role model, educator, and clinical resource.

CLINICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide high-quality, advanced critical care by utilizing assessment, triage, and treatment based on established program guidelines and current industry data and best practices.
Be proficient in assessing the nature and extent of illness or injury.
Establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical patient.
Work collaboratively with a partner to develop and carry out appropriate patient care before and during transport.
Perform advanced skills and procedures within the scope of practice as outlined by the established Survival Flight EMS protocols.
Maintain thorough and complete documentation of patient care; documentation will accurately reflect assessment and interventions.
Complete patient care records within 12 hours of initial patient contact and provide receiving facility with a completed care record.
Remain current and proficient with all equipment.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Participation in and successful completion of annual clinical skills assessments.
Participate and complete monthly continuing education activities to maintain all certifications and duty status.
Develop and achieve individual, value-adding goals written annually by the supervisor or program lead.
Maintain current documentation of certifications and participate in training related to vehicle operations, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and advanced procedures.
Remains current and proficient with all equipment and certifications as required (e.g., BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS, ITLS or PHTLS).

OPERATIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Begin each shift by inspecting equipment and supplies onboard the ambulance.
Ensure proper maintenance, sanitation, and retrieval of Survival Flight EMS equipment.
Maintain adequate supplies onboard the ambulance to deliver patient care.
Keep ambulance clean and orderly to ensure rapid response to all transport requests.
Report all equipment failures immediately and document properly.
Use and apply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly, including masks and other protective gear.
Comply with safety standards to ensure the safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment.
Participate in and complete facility and referring agency follow-up within a reasonable time after calls.
Respond promptly to dispatch communications with a two-minute or less response time to all emergencies.
Attend and participate in departmental meetings according to established schedules.
Complete all assigned daily and monthly base duties.
Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patients.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure adherence to the Survival Flight EMS Policy and Procedure Manual, Clinical Operations Guidelines Manual, and Employee Handbook.
Help develop standards and guidelines related to the program as assigned.

STAFFING RESPONSIBILITIES The Registered Nurse shall support continuity of service through flexibility in scheduling and base assignment. The Registered Nurse will be prepared and prompt in reporting for scheduled shifts assigned. The Registered Nurse is expected to report to work 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure a smooth transition to an on-duty crew member.

SPECIAL PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in planned outreach and marketing activities.
Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in the orientation of new employees and students as assigned.
Acts as a liaison and communicates program goals and progress.
Participates regularly in departmental activities and projects.
Undertakes and maintains projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIRE Current State Certification in the state(s) applying to work.
BLS, ACLS, PALS, Nationally Recognized Trauma Course (e.g., ITLS or PHTLS).
IFT-RN candidates must be physically capable of performing duties, with reasonable accommodation if needed.
Current Valid State Driver's License with a good driving record.
At least 21 years of age with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate or bachelor’s degree in a health-related field.
Current National Registry Paramedic certification.
Previous Critical Care or ALS transport experience.
CCEMT-P, CCP-C, or FP-C certification.
Instructor status in any/all related areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Survival Flight operates 24/7/365, requiring rotating or non-traditional hours, and may require short turnarounds. The incumbent must be able to work in stressful field situations, including adverse weather, hazardous material exposure, loud noises, handling agitated patients, exposure to unknown diseases, and working in restricted areas. The incumbent must be able to walk, stoop, climb, twist, bend, run, sit, squat, kneel, reach, and move patients from various locations into the ambulance. The incumbent must also be able to lift patients with minimal assistance.
