Personnel Status: Regular Full-Time

This position is responsible for the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws. Conducts preliminary inquiries, field interviews, and follow-up investigations.

Provides court testimony.

Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.

High school diploma or equivalent; Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Knowledge of law enforcement training requirements.

Knowledge of criminal investigation and law enforcement principles and practices.Knowledge of the equipment and tools used in law enforcement activities.

Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.

Skill in performing law enforcement and criminal investigation activities.

Skill in organizing and planning work.

Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.

Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.

Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

The work is typically performed in an automobile and various outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, hot, or inclement weather. The work requires the use of specialized law-enforcement equipment.
