Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details

• Work in the Emergency Observation Unit of a Trauma Level III teaching hospital
• 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
• Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system utilized
• 12-hour day shift schedule, 0700-1900, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to other units and facilities within the region as needed, based on scope of practice
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks

Requirements
Active NC or compact RN license required
Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, and NGT placement
Experience with drain and tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley insertion
Experience managing PCA pumps and medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
EPIC EMR experience required
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
One professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
Additional Information
Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care within a fast-paced Emergency Observation Unit
Support team includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN for admissions and discharges, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and 24/7 Hospitalist coverage
Phlebotomy responsibilities shared between RNs and IV team, with dedicated IV/VAT team support
Travelers are prioritized for floating to other nursing units and may be assigned patients within scope of practice on units such as ICU or ED
Floating may extend to other facilities within the region, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division
Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays
Up to 6 days of requested time off may be approved, excluding holidays, with any shortfall added to the end of the contract
Navy scrub color required

Unit culture emphasizes strong teamwork with activities such as a book club and group Netflix watching
First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Returning employees must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
