Commercial Plumbing Estimator Requirements & Qualifications
- 3-10+ years of commercial plumbing estimating experience or strong field-to-estimating progression
- Ability to read and interpret commercial construction plans and specifications
- Working knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, code requirements, and installation methods
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software
- Comfortable using Excel for estimate workflows
- Excellent communication, able to collaborate with both field and project management teams
Commercial Plumbing Estimator Preferred Background & Skills
Prior background in both field and office roles within commercial plumbing
Commercial Plumbing Estimator Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive takeoffs from plans and specifications for plumbing scopes, including sanitary, storm, domestic water, gas, medical gas, and fixtures
Develop accurate, detailed cost estimates covering material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
Review bid documents to identify scope, exclusions, addenda, and risks prior to submission
Solicit pricing from suppliers and specialty subcontractors, evaluating for best value
Build realistic labor budgets by applying appropriate crew blends and productivity factors
Coordinate handoff of awarded projects to operations with thorough breakdowns and scope summaries
Track bid results and refine estimating practices based on project outcomes
