Full Time Mental Health Licensed Practical Nurse

Registered Nurse Crisis Services
Under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse – Crisis Services monitors clients, administers medications, keeps records, consults with healthcare providers, and educates clients utilizing the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Provides nursing care and services within the standards and scope of nursing practice as defined within the state Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures, and protocols, in addition to facility specific policies and procedures.
Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of clients and their caregivers.
Serves as a client advocate while utilizing the nursing process to plan, deliver, and evaluate goal-focused, individualized, safe, age specific care for all clients, including those with complex needs.
Records patients' medical histories and symptoms.

Operates and monitors medical equipment.
Documents patient care services by charting in-patient and department records.
Consults with supervisors and doctors to decide the best treatment plan for patients.
Conducts research to find ways to improve the healthcare processes and improve patient outcomes.
Creates, implements, and evaluates patient care plans with medical teams.
Supervises licensed practical and vocational nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing students.
Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and their families.
Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level.
Participates in finding solutions for variances from client goals and ensures implementation of solutions.
Communicates and coordinates care within a multidisciplinary team.
Obtains details of Advance Directives such as Mental Healthcare Power of Attorney.
Participates in the development of educational curriculum supporting health and wellness.
Partners with other provider agencies in the coordination of care to help participants achieve wellness, including the completion of a recovery-oriented discharge/accomplishment plan.
Coordinates services with various public and private community health, mental health, and social service agencies to ensure appropriate services for participants.

Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures and practices.
Knowledge of the DWIHN provider network and community resources.
Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code.
Knowledge of MDHHS policies, rules, regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of Federal policies, rules, regulations and procedures as it relates to DWIHN.
Knowledge of the State Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures.
Knowledge of psychiatric nursing.
Knowledge of psychiatric medications and their indications, common side effects, reactions and interactions of medications prescribed.
Knowledge of the clinical care process (screening, assessment, treatment planning, case management and continuing care).
Knowledge of and ability to use screening and assessment tools for behavioral health services.
Knowledge of behavioral health case management practices and principles.
Knowledge of medical and behavioral health practices and terminology.
Computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, Teams).
Training skills.
Relationship-building skills.
Ability to communicate in writing.
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. (One (1) year of full-time paid experience working in a behavioral health setting.

Trauma Informed Care experience is preferred.

This position will work in the DWIHN Crisis Care Center. This position will be required to work with persons who may suffer from mental health or substance abuse crises.
Crisis Care Operations is a 24/7 unit. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.
