As a Water Resources Engineer with 4+ years of experience you’ll play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference—from concept through completion. You’ll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve.

Lead a diverse range of stormwater, drainage, conservation, and infrastructure projects. Lead design and prepare construction drawings and specifications for a wide variety of stormwater projects including: storm sewer, water quality BMPs, channel design, detention basins, lake restoration, dredging, earthen dams, stream stabilization, floodplain analysis, constructed wetlands, conservation practices, stream restoration, and mitigation bank establishment.
Prepare construction cost estimates
Lead internal and external project meetings
Take projects from concept to bid-ready documents
Complete construction administration and observation services
Lead construction permitting with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies
Assist with scope, schedule, and fee development with project management support
Collaborate with clients and regulatory agencies
Participate in business development activities and local conferences
Bachelor’s (B.in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited four-year or graduate engineering university
Experience: Four or more years of similar technical experience with no less than one-year of experience in project leadership
AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus
Experience with hydrology and hydraulic software such as SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSTORM, Pondpack, and/or Infoworks ICM, etc.
Experience with detailed plans and specifications for stormwater projects
Interest and desire to grow into project management and project leadership role
Demonstrates an ability to be service oriented to existing and potential clients
Strong verbal, computer, time management, and organizational skills
Good understanding of the general civil engineering aspects required for delivering public and private infrastructure improvements
Proven technical writing and professional communication skills

This position is primarily performed in an office or hybrid environment and may require travel to project sites, other Shive-Hattery office locations or to meet with clients. The role involves sitting, standing, and working at a computer for extended periods. the wearing of PPE and navigating active construction sites .
