While rooted in nursing, the department also provides staffing support for Surgical Technologists, Emergency Room Technicians, Medical Assistants, and Patient Care Technicians, making it a vital partner in delivering high-quality patient care across the system.

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse - System Float demonstrates advanced clinical expertise in managing complex nursing problems across diverse patient populations and clinical settings. This role requires the ability to rapidly assess and adapt to multiple units and patient care environments while maintaining exceptional standards of care.
Provide direct patient care across units, utilizing clinical knowledge to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
Demonstrate flexibility and clinical judgment by rapidly orienting to different units, patient populations, and care protocols within the float pool environment
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
Collaborate with nursing leadership and clinical staff to support quality improvement initiatives and maintain safe patient care standards
Work assigned day and night shifts as scheduled to meet organizational staffing needs

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Minimum two years of related clinical nursing experience in area(s) of interest
Demonstrated level of performance and practice meeting organizational standards
Willingness to float to multiple locations within the health system
Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans
Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services
**Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing
Ability to rapidly assess and adapt to multiple units and patient care environments
Effective communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
Competency in medication administration, wound care, patient education, and post-operative care
Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills in compliance with regulatory standards
Flexibility and adaptability to varying shift schedules, including day and night shifts
