Security Officers-Part Time Evenings

Bard College, a liberal arts college on the Hudson River, is a private institution working in the public interest.

The Center for Curatorial Studies (CCS) at Bard College and the Hessel Museum of Art seek an experienced professional for theposition of Part-Time Security Officer . The Part-Time Security Officer will be responsible for the security andmonitoring of the CCS Bard and Hessel Museum facility as directedby the Security and Facility Manager. The Security Officer willhelp create a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, andvisitors, as well as ensure the security of exhibition andcollection assets at the Hessel Museum and CCS Bard Galleriesfollowing standard museum practices.

This part-time, casual position requires availability to workweekends and occasional evenings.

About the Hessel Museum of Art:

The Hessel Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum thatorganizes and presents group exhibitions and thematic surveys,monographic presentations, traveling exhibitions, as well asstudent-curated shows that are free and open to the public. It ispart of the Center for Curatorial Studies, a multifacetedinstitution at Bard College that also includes a graduate programin curatorial studies, a collection of more than 3,000 artworks,and an extensive library and archives. Together, these resourcesamount to one of the world’s most forward-thinking teaching andlearning environments for contemporary curatorial practice andscholarship.

Responsibilities:

Patrol and secure the museum, galleries, and other parts of thefacility to ensure a safe environment

Facilitate and control access to key areas

Operate the security equipment, e.g., CCTV systems, andfire/security alarms, the communications system, andexhibition-related audio/visual and display equipment, among otheritems

Prepare and maintain accurate logs and written reports, asrequired

Provide crisis intervention and mediation in requiredsituations

Provide assistance and information to students, faculty, staff,and visitors to the museum

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

High school diploma required

Minimum of one year of security or hospitality experience,preferably in a museum setting, required

Must hold the NYS Security pre-assignment and be willing toobtain a NYS Security license

Must maintain a valid New York driver’s license

Position requires mental alertness, emotional stability, andphysical fitness (including hearing and eyesight) to deal with anyemergencies

Broadly accepting of and able to work with college students,staff, and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnicbackgrounds

Punctual, dependable, and calm under pressure

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple taskssimultaneously

Professional with strong interpersonal and communicationskills

Ability to use equipment such as a hand radio, computer, andtelephone

Compensation:

$18.54/hour; part-time, casual

This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
