Temporary Investigator

This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Regulated Industries Complaints Office, Investigation Staff.

The State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this exempt position to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

The function of the Regulated Industries Complaints Office (RICO), Field Investigation Staff is to provide investigation, complaint resolution and enforcement services by conducting field investigations for consumer and licensee complaints and to conduct field inspections for the vocational boards, commissions and divisions under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA).

The position is appointed and commissioned under the authority of HRS 26-9U) and is under the general supervision of the Supervising Investigator. The position also gathers information, writes reports and performs other related duties when RICO conducts "unlicensed sting and sweep" operations. Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor's degree. Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience that provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

1) initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment required to collect, assemble, and develop facts and other pertinent data; (report writing; rules of legal evidence; interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations relating to RICO's operations; supervise others in the performance of investigative tasks as applicable.

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature.
