Job Summary:

The Coastal Nursing Medical Surgical (MS) Registered Nurse (RN) position is located at a healthcare facility in Evansville, Indiana. This role involves providing specialized nursing care on a Medical Surgical Floor, with a focus on trauma, ortho, and neuro patient populations. The position requires nights shifts, with a schedule of 12 hours per shift and a minimum of 36 hours per week. The contract length is 13 weeks, starting on August 24, 2026.

Job Details:

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications: Valid current active compact license; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification; minimum of 2 years of RN experience including one full year in ortho/neuro/trauma; at least one travel assignment; trauma level II experience; recent Electronic Patient Record (EPIC) charting experience (must complete a checkoff class).

Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing chest tubes or indwelling drains; administering drips such as heparin, Lasix, Protonix; epidural management; placement and care of PEGs/NGs; Buck's traction; pin site care; On-Q pain management systems; Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol (CIWA) or Behavioral Health (BH); wound care including packing and wound vacs; strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

Patient Population: Trauma, ortho (e.g., broken hip or femur), neuro (scheduled neck, back, spine, rib fractures).

Float: First within skillset to float between Deaconess Newburgh (Indiana) campus and Deaconess Henderson (Kentucky) campus with a 2-hour notice. Cross-campus float to be within the same shift.

On Call/Call Back: Not required.

Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule and every other holiday.

Unit Information: 44 beds; nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-5 during days and 1:4-7 during nights; nurses on nights rarely take patients from other units.

Unit Strengths: Experienced staff and leadership who treat travelers as their own; manager has been on the unit since 2017.

Scrub Colors: Navy blue scrubs with no competing health system or agency logos.

Additional Details: May require precepting students or new hires; COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change). No guarantee of GSA hours during orientation. Travelers are guaranteed set hours per week, except during holidays when the unit is closed.

Education: Associate Degree or Certificate required.

Interview Days: Monday through Friday.

Interview Types: MSP Interview.
