Job Description
Position Description: The cook will provide leadership within the kitchen and oversee day‑to‑day operations of the assigned site. Working under the direction of the Director of Nutrition & Food Service, the Lead Cook must demonstrate flexibility and be prepared to do whatever is necessary to ensure the efficient and effective operation of his/her site.

Responsibilities

Cook and serve breakfast and lunch that meets all requirements of local, state and SBP & NSLP regulations.

Provide leadership at the cafeteria site.

Maintain daily production records and temperature logs.

Estimate food preparation amounts, and adjust recipes if required to meet projected meal requirements and minimize waste.

Receive, verify and store all shipments.

Keep hair restrained at all times when working with food.

Wear vinyl or plastic gloves while handling food.

Report all equipment maintenance needs to the food service manager.

Clean major appliances: refrigerators, ovens, freezers.

Order all food and supplies needed from proper procured vendors.

Understand oral and written instruction.

Assist Director of Nutrition & Food Service in evaluation of cafeteria workers.

Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.

Maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.

Clean and maintain all kitchen equipment and service area.

Assist in the training of substitutes and new food service employees.

Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, cleanliness, sanitation and safety.

Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, faculty and staff at all times, without sacrificing professionalism.

Foster an acceptable and respectful workplace environment.

Attend all food service meetings and participate in continuing education modules and training as required by the Director of Nutrition & Food Service.

Job Requirements

Serve Safe certification.

At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.

High School/Trade School degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
