Perform horticultural functions and landscape or general maintenance, construction, litter removal, and repair functions necessary to maintain roadways, public buildings, parks, schools, athletic fields, and other designated public areas; and may provide limited supervision to subordinate groundskeepers.

Assist in the coordination and supervision of subordinate groundskeepers.
Perform landscape and grounds maintenance services.
Operate lawn mowers, weed eaters, edging, and trimming equipment; and operate a variety of motor equipment.
Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of fencing. Load and unload tools, equipment, dirt, gravel, clay, and sand for project assignments.
Prune and trim trees and shrubs. Line athletic fields.
Perform some painting, masonry, and carpentry tasks.
Work during emergencies, inclement weather, or other essential operating periods to perform vital services such as storm damage cleanup, snow removal, and other horticultural duties as required.
If selected for the position, you will be provided with an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.

All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
This position is a 7 day a week operation including early mornings, evening, weekend and holidays.
This position is primarily scheduled Monday -Friday but will have occasional assignments that can include weekends and holidays.

• Chemical and/or pesticide application experience
• Experience operating commercial landscape equipment
• Experience with athletic field maintenance

Minimum Qualifications: Must have High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings/midnights) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs. VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
