Pay

Expected pay for this position is $39.13 - $51.21/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

This is an Hourly position.

Position Summary

The Radiation Therapist will assist with the daily patient flow of the Radiation Oncology clinical location, evaluate and develop new processes for patient care, and assist with other activities to improve Radiation Oncology operations. According to established procedures, the therapist assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, they prepare the treatment room, explain procedures to patients, position patients, and administer treatments. They monitor patients during therapy sessions to ensure patients’ comfort and observe changes in patients’ conditions. They simulate patient treatment according to the treatment plan and deliver prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. They design and construct custom treatment devices for individual patients and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Current Radiation Therapy license issued by IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety and ARRT Radiology registration, or successful completion of ARRT Radiology registry within 6 months of hire.

Experience

Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation, and of physics and patient‑care techniques at a level acquired through an approved program in radiation therapy technology, usually lasting one year beyond radiography training. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, allied health personnel, and other Medical Center personnel when explaining procedures and exchanging patient‑related information.

Analytical skills necessary to provide accurate care instructions to patients, interpret physicians’ prescriptions for treatment course, and effectively duplicate treatment plans.
