Our mission is to develop new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice. This exciting career opportunity for a General Engineer is with the Spokane Mining Research Division.

The Spokane Mining Research Division is part of the NIOSH Mining Program. The Program serves as the focal point for miner safety and health research at NIOSH. Located in beautiful Spokane, Washington, we operate a state-of-the‑art facility in a growing city that offers a well‑balanced lifestyle with many outdoor activities, cultural events, and high‑quality schools!

Appointment Type: Permanent

Applicants must meet the basic engineering qualification requirements and the applicable experience or education requirements for the grade level.

The team focuses on reducing hazards to mine workers through applied laboratory and field research.

Lead and perform field and laboratory investigations, data collections, and technical assessments aimed at reducing mining-related injuries and fatalities

Apply engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to develop applied solutions for occupational safety and health challenges.

Utilize data-analysis methods and tools to accurately analyze, interpret, and communicate engineering and scientific findings.

Plan, coordinate, and manage research projects to ensure successful completion by collaborating with industry stakeholders, contractors and cross-functional teams to provide relevant results in a timely manner.
