Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University's operations.
Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university's operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.
Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. To perform journey level work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water, steam, natural and laboratory gasses, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems.
Inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, installs, and replaces building, laboratory, and other miscellaneous plumbing systems. Uses common piping materials such as copper, brass, black steel pipe, galvanized iron, cast iron, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc.
Locates and repairs leaks in common and specialty piping systems conveying various fluids and gases, including but not limited to domestic water, reclaimed water, wastewater, steam, laboratory gases, natural gas, and refrigerants. Performs preventive maintenance on building, laboratory and specialty plumbing systems and system components including pumps and controls. Includes working on electronic and pneumatic actuated valves, as well as replacing backflow prevention assemblies, and safety eye washes and showers.
Assists other technicians as needed in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up-to-date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level plumber. Licensed as a Journey Level Plumber from the State of Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners or able to achieve this level of licensure within 180 days. Graduation from an accredited apprenticeship program or technical school. More than three years experience as a journey level plumber. Four years industrial plumbing experience related to the functions listed. Licensed as a Master Plumber in the State of Texas. Licensed as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester. Licensed as a Customer Service Inspector. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Environmental Demands:

Additional Working Conditions:

Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.
May be required to operate job related equipment.
If driving University vehicles, may be required to maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
