About the Role
A well-established, growth-oriented accounting and tax practice is seeking an experienced Contract Tax Preparer to support our individual and business return workload. This is a flexible, results-oriented engagement ideal for a seasoned preparer who values autonomy, clean processes, and working with a team that takes pride in accurate, high-quality work.

You will prepare and review returns, communicate clearly on open items, and help us deliver an excellent client experience during the season and beyond.

What You'll Do

Prepare federal and state individual returns (1040) and business returns (1065, 1120, 1120‑S) with supporting schedules

Review source documents, identify missing information, and document open items

Apply current tax law accurately, including depreciation, credits, and multistate considerations where applicable

Communicate professionally on review notes and client follow-ups

Maintain organized, well-documented workpapers and meet engagement deadlines

What We're Looking For

Active IRS PTIN in good standing (required)

3+ years of recent professional tax preparation experience

Comfort with individual and business returns across multiple states

Strong attention to detail and a track record of accurate, on-time work

Reliable remote-work setup and the ability to handle client data securely

Experience with Drake Tax software (preferred)

EA or CPA credential (preferred, not required)

1099 independent contractor; you set your own schedule within deadline windows

Volume and hours flexible based on capacity and season

Compensation
This is a per-return engagement, paid as a percentage of the preparation fee on each return you complete. The exact percentage is negotiated individually and reflects your experience and credentials, with stronger credentials (EA or CPA) commanding a higher split. Because our fees scale with return complexity, the same percentage earns you more on more involved returns.
