Position Summary COMPETITIVE SALARY & BENEFITS PACKAGE As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life‑saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada’s highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients.
Assists legal department with complex legal issues and provides legal advice to hospital administration on various matters requiring legal guidance on contractual agreements; regulatory laws, fraud and abuse / compliance matters and appropriate deal and arrangement structures.
Juris Doctorate degree and two (2) years of legal experience in medical legal affairs, contracts, healthcare regulatory law, government public works and purchasing, or related field. Experience in legal issues related to both the clinical and business operations of a hospital. Experience representing or working with a governmental entity, government relations related to compliance with local government law applicable to governmental agencies (i.e., open meeting law, public records act, state purchasing laws and budget requirements).
Nevada license to practice law in state court and eligibility to practice law before the federal and appellate courts of the State of Nevada. Valid class C Nevada Driver's License.
Additional Position Requirements Minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience in medical malpractice, premises liability, or employment law.
Minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience in guardianship and probate.
Knowledge Of: Business practices, such as purchasing and contracts, application of complex legal principles to individual cases or problems; applicable laws, codes and regulations; professional ethics in the practice of law; federal, state, local and accreditation laws, standards and practices; current trends in healthcare, medical education and research; state, federal and other laws and regulations governing health care; business practices, such as purchasing and contracts, marketing, performance measurement, etc.; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill In: Drafting, reviewing, and revising contracts in a wide variety of areas, such as, medical equipment and supplies, information technology and software, construction and maintenance and professional and non‑professional service agreements; ability to analyze complex legal problems and apply legal principles and practices; understand and interpret constitutional provisions, statutes, administrative regulations and precedents; researching, interpreting, applying, and explaining applicable laws, codes, regulations and court decisions; developing and monitoring budgets; using computers and related software applications; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in‑person and over the telephone.
