The protection of life and property, preservation of peace, enforcement of the laws of the Commonwealth, as well as regulations of the University within appropriate jurisdictional boundaries. To provide efficient security and public safety service to the University community by effectively responding to calls for service, by reporting crime and other suspicious activities, resolving public safety matters, and addressing administrative infractions. The Security Officer is tasked with monitoring and make rounds to ensure the safety and security of VSU community members and facilities. Typical duties: lock and unlock University buildings, doors, and classrooms; provide visitors and University community members with information and directions to campus buildings, classrooms, and off-campus areas. operate security & state vehicles; respond to complaints and make preliminary investigations. Answer alarms and disturbances, contact police, fire, & rescue in case of an emergency, and follow established University emergency procedures. Patrol among visitors and University community members to preserve order and protect property. Security Officers must be accountable for their actions and dependable in their attendance. This is a classified full-time position. Evening and night shifts are available with some flexibility in scheduling provided.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work: • The ability to project a positive image of the University and Department through positive attitude and appearance. • Three years of post-high school work experience is preferred.
