Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of acute care experience with 1 year of PCU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
Work on a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
Care for adult patients with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
Pediatric patients are occasionally present but are rare and typically cared for by permanent staff, so pediatric experience is not required
Rotating 12-hour day/night shift schedule (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30), with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
Staffing ratios of approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU, though ratios may vary based on unit needs
Weekend shifts are variable
Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
Epic EMR experience required
Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience
• Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, peripheral line care, IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred but not required, willingness to learn is valued
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references are not accepted

Additional Information
Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
Preferred additional skills include management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must complete fingerprinting at an Ohio location promptly after booking; those at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
Locals are accepted at the same rate
Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
