Head of Health and Safety

Overview

A highly motivated, results-oriented, and effective Safety Manager who provides the leadership role in developing and managing the implementation of proactive safety & health programs that protect the corporation and individuals against the financial and physical impact of loss arising from, but not limited to, injury/illness, workers’ compensation, general liability, auto, and property losses.

Core Role Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to OSHA and EPA guidelines.

Risk Assessment & Audits: Execute routine facility inspections, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and ergonomic studies to identify and eliminate hazards.

Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analyses for accidents, injuries, and near-misses, and implement corrective and preventative actions.

Employee Training: Develop and deliver regulatory and job-specific safety training, including new-hire orientation, lockout-tagout (LOTO), and machining guarding.

Emergency Preparedness: Design and update emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation routes, and severe weather protocols.

Metrics & Reporting: Monitor and analyze safety KPIs such as incident rates and workers’ compensation data to report trends to plant leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide continuous safety training for employees on safety policies, regulations, and procedures.

Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations.

Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.

Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment.

Implement critical 6 safety programs.

Ability to conduct monthly area audits for program effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.

Preferred credentials include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM).

Experience/Skills

2-5 years of progressive safety management experience within an industrial or manufacturing setting.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to lead and teach a team.

Great attention to detail.

Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.

Excellent organizational skills.

Knowledge

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

Able to stand, kneel, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.

Must tolerate exposure to warm and humid kitchen conditions.
