Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience and MO or compact RN licensure.
Details
Work on a Medical Surgical unit specializing in GI/GU patients
Patient population includes ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, and GU cases in a high turn-over surgical setting
Patient ratios of 1:4-6
Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
Requires working every other weekend
No on-call responsibilities
Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
Unit administers Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasional stable non-titrated Amiodarone drips
Unit utilizes PCAs, epidurals, and CBIs with various irrigation solutions
Centralized telemetry monitoring with basic tele knowledge preferred
Special procedures include foley catheters, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), TURPs, and colorectal patient protocols
Uses Epic EMR system
Requirements
Active MO or compact RN license required (no issuance if tied to another compact state)
BLS and ACLS certifications required
BSN preferred
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
Prior travel nursing experience required
Epic EMR experience required
Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs
Skills required: colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care and management
Skills required: continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) management
Skills required: administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
Skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, remote telemetry monitoring
Facial hair must allow for proper fit testing or must be shaved
Additional Information
Provide excellent patient care with strong documentation skills and a team-oriented approach
Work within a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital that is a Level I Trauma Center
Navy scrub color required
First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius, as local candidates are not accepted
RTO limited to no more than 7 days per contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
Permanent employees of the health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Returning travelers must have an 18-month tenure with a required 3-month break in service
Block scheduling is not accommodated
