What onboarding at Jooble looks like

What onboarding at Jooble looks like

Nowadays, employer-employee relationships have changed significantly, especially in the IT sphere. For applicants, a job is not just a means to receive a paycheck but a place that reveals their values and provides opportunities for further development. This is what Olena Tkachenko, the Recruitment Coordinator at Jooble, says.

Like most companies, Jooble has been operating in the hybrid model for the past year. That’s why the onboarding process comprises two formats, online and offline. Each of them has both pros and cons, and each of them is equally stressful for the candidate. Therefore, the company’s task is to minimize stress as much as possible.

The key to successful onboarding is creating a safe environment for newbies, where they can learn, research, and have room for an error. The following principles should be followed if you want to achieve it:

  • Respect – at Jooble, regardless of the position, there is an atmosphere of mutual respect, and every candidate can feel it at all stages of the onboarding process.
  • Tolerance and willingness to help – feeling insecure during the first working days is natural. However, it’s vital to demonstrate to employees that they are not left to the mercy of fate with their insecurities and that making mistakes is normal.
  • Optimized communication – delivering the information about complex processes with simple words, establishing interaction with the newbie so that they have a minimum number of questions regarding the first-day agenda. The employee should be comfortably integrated into the company’s workflow and culture.

At Jooble, we use a step-by-step algorithm for the onboarding flow. There are some of its key elements:

  • Welcome letter – a list of tasks for the first working day. There are also links to internal guides.
  • Buddy – a team member who assists the newbie with adaptation and does everything to help the new employee feel a part of the company as soon as possible.
  • For the remote workers, we send a plan for their first working day in advance, as the candidate has to clearly understand what will be happening on their first day in the company. The timetable helps them to concentrate and adequately arrange their time.
  • 1-2-1 with the team lead on the first working day – the team lead immediately coordinates the onboarding process and helps the newbie adjust as fast as possible.
  • Feedback – on the first day, in a month, and after the trial period.

It’s crucial to realize the importance of onboarding. It’s the basis to prove that the new employee and the company create a perfect match. It’s time for the candidate to ensure that they have made the right choice when they accept the offer.

The indicator of the qualitative onboarding at Jooble is the turnover rate during their trial period. In 2021, it stood just at 6,5%.
