The job of Paraprofessional 2 is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned specialized classroom with specific responsibility for assisting the Lead Teacher in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

Essential functions include adapting classroom activities, administering tests and homework, assisting special education teachers with creating lesson plans, assisting medically fragile or physically disabled students, communicating with instructional staff and parents, implementing lesson plans and behavioral plans, maintaining instructional materials, monitoring students during various school environments, providing instruction to students, attending meetings and in-service presentations, administering immediate first aid and medical assistance, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications include having a high school diploma or a GED certificate and completing 48 hours at an institution of higher education or obtaining an associate's (or higher) degree. Passing a State approved assessment is also required. Job related experience is preferred.

Communication/organization skills include maintaining communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Technology utilization and other related work as required are also part of the job.

Reasoning ability includes solving practical problems, interpreting instructions, and effectively presenting information.

Language skills include reading and analyzing general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; writing reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols; and effectively presenting information and responding to questions from various groups.

Physical demands include sitting, walking, standing, talking or hearing, and specific vision abilities. The work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment.

Other skills and abilities include applying knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; planning and implementing lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; and speaking clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Terms of employment are 186 days and the salary is Level 9. The classified salary schedule can be found on the KCKPS website. FLSA status is hourly, non-exempt, and the position reports to the Principal. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy.
