We are looking for candidates able to teach 4 sections of English and serve as an advisor to a group of approximately 12 students.We seek thoughtful, collaborative, and passionate teachers who demonstrate a strong practice of and commitment to anti-racist and identity-inclusive pedagogy that supports students of all backgrounds to succeed academically, collaborate, and develop self-reflection tools for personal growth. We are also looking for genuine, kind colleagues and all-around "school people" who want to participate in and contribute to our vibrant community.As an institution committed to educating the whole child, we both invite and expect teaching faculty to participate fully in the academic and co-curricular life of the school. This includes, but is not limited to, furthering the mission of the school through participating in our Advisory, Public Purpose, and DEI Programs; as well as routine attendance in all curricular team meetings, department meetings, faculty meetings, and office hours to support students when needed.JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONSA preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching students how to read, write, think and speak critically about literature and what it shows about the human experienceSeveral years experience teaching at the high school level, particularly 9th and 11th gradesStrong ability and experience with developing grade level curriculum in English LiteratureExperience successfully leading a grade-level team or chairing a department preferred but not requiredDemonstrated cultural competency in text selection, assignments, and student feedback and support and a commitment to equity and anti-racist instructionDemonstrated experience with effectively scaffolding student learning, including differentiated instruction for students across various academic and social backgroundsA commitment to work collaboratively on a grade level team, as well as across disciplinesExcellent oral and written communication skillsSKILLSAbility to understand student needs at various stages of development to both support them and hold them accountableA willingness to engage across difference with empathy and understandingSocial and emotional acuityAn understanding of your own identity and related positionalitiesThe ability to nurture and encouragelife-long learning through joyful, authentic, and rich learning experiencesA profound openness to feedback and improvement, modeling lifelong learning of practice as well as subject areaTO APPLYPlease upload a cover letter and resume, and provide the contact information of three references, one of whom should be a direct supervisor.LWHS is an equal opportunity employer.
