Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic to install, fabricate, and assemble HVAC ductwork systems on a large commercial construction project. This role requires proficiency with sheet metal installation, ductwork layouts, field fabrication, and blueprint reading. The ideal candidate will have experience working with spiral, oval, and rectangular duct systems and be able to perform installations safely and efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Install HVAC ductwork systems including rectangular, spiral, and oval duct.

• Measure, cut, assemble, and install sheet metal ductwork and fittings.

• Perform field fabrication of duct components as required to meet project specifications.

• Install VAV boxes, dampers, hangers, supports, and related HVAC components.

• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and ductwork layouts.

• Assist with rooftop duct penetrations, fan installations, and equipment connections.

• Ensure proper alignment, sealing, and support of duct systems.

• Coordinate work with other trades to maintain project schedules.

• Operate sheet metal fabrication tools and power equipment safely.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all safety regulations.

Essential Skills

• Experience installing commercial HVAC ductwork systems.

• Ability to install spiral, oval, and rectangular duct.

• Strong sheet metal fabrication and layout experience.

• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.

• Knowledge of HVAC installation methods and industry standards.

• Experience installing hangers, supports, dampers, and VAV boxes.

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

• SST certification preferred for NYC projects.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience working on commercial, industrial, or high-rise construction projects.

• Ability to work safely at heights using ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.

• Familiarity with rooftop units (RTUs), exhaust fans, and air distribution systems.

• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.

• Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Work Environment

Work is performed on active commercial construction sites. Candidates should be comfortable working in physically demanding environments and following all site-specific safety requirements.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
