Litigation Associate Attorney

A growing boutique litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with approximately 2–3 years of substantive litigation experience to join its civil and commercial litigation practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developing attorney who has built a strong foundation in litigation and wants greater responsibility, meaningful courtroom exposure, and the opportunity to develop into a well-rounded trial attorney.

The firm's practice is intentionally broad, with matters involving businesses, individuals, property owners, contractors, investors, and other clients throughout Northern Illinois.

Attorneys may work on matters involving:

• Business and commercial litigation
• Breach of contract disputes
• Real estate litigation
• Construction disputes
• Partnership and shareholder disputes
• Fraud and business tort claims
• Property and lease disputes
• General civil litigation
• Other complex disputes from inception through trial

Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed above.

We are particularly interested in attorneys who have been exposed to a variety of matters and want to continue broadening their litigation experience.

What we're looking for:

• Approximately 2–3 years of litigation experience
• Illinois Bar admission
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Experience drafting pleadings and substantive motions
• Written discovery experience
• Exposure to depositions and witness preparation
• Court appearance and motion practice experience
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines
• Strong interest in becoming a highly capable trial attorney

Experience involving commercial disputes, real estate, construction, contracts, business matters, or other sophisticated civil litigation is particularly attractive.

Attorneys coming from a broader business-oriented practice who have developed meaningful litigation skills are also encouraged to apply.

The opportunity:

This is not a position where a young attorney will spend years sitting behind senior lawyers.

Associates are given substantive responsibility, direct involvement in active cases, and the opportunity to develop their skills through discovery, depositions, motion practice, client interaction, negotiations, and courtroom experience.

The firm maintains a 1,700-hour annual billable expectation, allowing attorneys to focus on developing their litigation skills while handling meaningful casework.
