Summary
**Open until filled with a 1st review date of Thursday July 2nd, 2026** ***In order to be considered, candidates must possess current certificates at the time of application for the following: - American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, and First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) for the Professional Rescuer - Swim instructor certificate from a certified establishment (example: American Red Cross, Ellis, Starfish, City of Yuma) Under basic supervision, provides a safe aquatic environment for patrons using municipal swimming pools; monitors the daily maintenance of the swimming facilities and supervises assigned staff; monitors activities in City pool facilities to assure public safety and compliance with state rules and regulations, and City policies and procedures ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor/and or Swim Coach experience; must be at least 18 years of age. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of:
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. Must possess certificates for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, and Swim Lesson Instructor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in public swimming pool environments. Incumbents must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
The City of Yuma offers the following benefits: *SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE - Employees pay a contribution into the Social Security & Medicare System. *WORKER'S COMP. - Insurance coverage for medical expenses and loss of income due to an on-the-job injury is provided by the City of Yuma for all employees.
*UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE - Employees are covered by Unemployment Insurance. *SICK LEAVE - Employees are eligible to utilize paid sick leave immediately following 90 calendar days from their date of hire. Irregular part-time employees will accrue .0333 hours of sick leave for every hour they work. The annual accrual is maxed at 40 hours of sick leave. *HOLIDAYS- Part-time irregular or Seasonal employees who work the day of the City recognized holiday will be paid holiday pay for the amount of hours worked that day, up to eight hours. No holiday pay will be earned for days designated as "observed days". The following are City-recognized holidays:

- Manages daily operations of a municipal swimming pool; registers participants as needed; supervises, schedules, assigns and evaluates assigned staff.
- Controls pool operations to assure that safety and water quality rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the facility and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Schedules pool activities such as parties, water athletics, swim lessons, and water safety instruction.
- Oversees cash transactions; reconciles cash drawers and bookkeeping records, and makes bank deposits, prepares a variety of written reports.
- Monitors swimming and other pool activities to prevent accidents; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and applies cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid; oversees the application of first aid and CPR in emergency situations.
- Inspects swimming pool for cleanliness and performs routine maintenance, including tests of water in the pool to determine chemical balance of chlorinators; maintains pool facilities.
- Resolves routine problems; handles issues, inquiries, and complaints from patrons; writes accident and incident reports.
- Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Yuma and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor/and or Swim Coach experience; must be at least 18 years of age. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Rules and regulations governing the safety of municipal aquatics facilities and equipment.
- Lifesaving methods and procedures, including first aid, water rescue, and resuscitation measures.
- Water safety, swimming and diving instructional and certification methods and techniques.
- Recreational activities for children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens and/or special populations.
- Principles of water chemistry, chlorination, and pH balancing.
- Money handling and bookkeeping procedures and methods.
- Making decisions according to Department policies and procedures
- Understanding and interpreting recreation policies, regulations, and state and Federal laws.
- Promoting a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior.
- Teaching water safety, swimming and diving techniques.
- Monitoring pool facility and guests for violations of rules and safety standards.
- Effectively using emergency techniques for standard water approach, rescue and resuscitation.
- Acting quickly and calmly in emergency situations and promoting safety standards.
