Since 1919, Easterseals has been serving the community providing help, hope and answers for our neighbors challenged by physical, mental, or emotional health issues. Easterseals Serving DC|MD|VA (ESDCMDVA) ( is the affiliate serving Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. We deliver exceptional services through a network of 6 sites and in-home care, and we provide Adult Medical Day Care, Early Child Development and Education, Therapy, Behavioral Health, Respite, and Workforce Development services where participants and their families find support, hope, medical care, and enjoyable activities. Our unique and dedicated staff of over 200 professionals includes specialists in education, therapy, senior services, social work, assistive technology, nursing, and related professions. Working Schedule: Monday-Friday (day shift) Position Summary: The Activity Leader is responsible for assisting participants with activities of daily living (ADL) managing the food service and conducting group and individual activities. Essential Functions:
- Devise monthly program activities utilizing staff and community resources. Present to the Plan and conduct group and individual activities.
- Provide input and support to the Activities Director.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of snacks.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of lunch.
- Assist Activities Director with field trips (planning, accompanying, and driving)
- Assist participants with Activities of Daily Living (toileting, ambulation, transfers, feeding, changing clothes, showers).
- Assist participants boarding and exiting vans.
- Observe participants for change in condition and report to the Health Director.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Center's neat, clean, and safe environment.
- Attend and meaningfully contribute to regular Center Staff meetings and activity staff meetings.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- GED or high school diploma. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license preferred.
- Two or more years of experience working with seniors and/or adults with functional impairments.
- Current CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to deal with and manage physical and cognitive impairments of participants boarding and exiting the vans.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with participants, families, care providers, employees, colleagues, community referral sources, and the general community.
- Ability to follow instructions quickly and easily with minimal supervision and seek out direction promptly. Ability to take initiative and problem-solve.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
- Aware of potential hazards or problems within the environment and seek out supervision promptly. Report issues, successes, and concerns promptly to Activity Director.
- Work as a team member with Center Management.
- Work collaboratively with all center staff.
- Aware of confidentiality of client information.
- Able to maneuver various pathways for entry / exit into locations.
- Able to lift, carry and move a variety of items such as supplies, equipment, therapy equipment and supplies, approximately 50lbs or less.
- Must be able to assist participants in a wide range of personal care duties (ex. toileting)
