Job Description

The General Production Worker plays a key role in supporting metal processing and recycling operations by sorting, organizing, and handling materials in both warehouse and outdoor yard areas. This is a highly physical position that involves regularly lifting up to 50 pounds, moving metal parts between designated areas, and assisting with loading and unloading trucks. The role is ideal for individuals who are comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment and can adapt to working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Sort and organize metal materials for processing and recycling according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Handle materials safely and efficiently, including lifting, carrying, and moving metal parts from one area to another.
• Unload incoming trucks and load outgoing trucks with metal materials and other items as directed.
• Work in both the warehouse and the outdoor yard, spending approximately 50% of the time inside and 50% outside.
• Perform physically demanding tasks on a regular basis, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the shift.
• Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment at all times while on the job.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in both indoor and outdoor spaces, even in a dirtier, heavy industrial environment.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate material movement and workflow.
• Adapt to working around loud noises and heavy equipment or machinery, maintaining focus and situational awareness.
• Support general production and industrial operations as needed, demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.

Essential Skills

• Experience working in manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial environments.
• Comfort working in a heavy industrial setting, including exposure to dirt, noise, and heavy equipment.
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
• Willingness and ability to work outside approximately 50% of the time in varying weather conditions.
• Commitment to wearing all required PPE while working, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toed boots, and ear plugs.
• Basic general labor skills and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely and consistently.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality for a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday.
• Ability to follow instructions, adhere to safety procedures, and work effectively as part of a production team.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial scrap metal yard and warehouse environment on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The work setting is on the dirtier side, with exposure to dust, dirt, and metal debris, and can be loud in many areas due to heavy equipment and machinery running. Approximately half of the work is performed indoors in the warehouse and half outdoors in the yard, where workers may be exposed to the elements; rain gear is provided when needed. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, including a hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and ear plugs. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, yet grounded in a long-standing, 115-year family-owned culture that places a strong emphasis on employee care, safety, and support.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $23.50/hr.
