Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Division of Human Resources (DHR), Workforce Development Office Chief (Sup II), the Supervisor I (Sup I) is tasked with leading the Department's Career Development, Upward Mobility Program, Formal Mentorship, Workforce Planning, Succession Management Programs.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located at 1500 5th St Sacramento, CA 95814.

This is a Limited Term position which may be extended to 24 months or become permanent. 

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

This position is eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’ current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquarted location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee's designated Headquarters location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations and applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquarted location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

While at their base of operation, incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Incumbent will be required to travel in state and overnight stay is required.

This role encompasses training employees, managing program compliance, and ensuring a streamlined approach towards workforce planning and succession management in line with governmental regulations. The Supervisor I engages in external and internal collaborative efforts to broaden organizational impact and career development across the department. The Supervisor I will be a proactive individual ready to foster innovative initiatives within the Office of Talent Management. The Supervisor I plays a pivotal role in nurturing a culture of acknowledgment, continuous learning, and career growth, aligning closely with the broader organizational objectives. Travel is required including overnight.
