Medical Laboratory Technician I – Memphis, TN Work days Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Pay range: $19.85+ per hour. Job Overview Perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in specialties to which the technician is qualified by education, training, and experience. Responsibilities Perform and report on assigned analytical tests under the direction of senior personnel in accordance with applicable SOPs and maintain quality control requirements. May perform moderate‑complexity testing with specific on‑site training and oversight. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain a turnaround time of results, including stat or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates and, if applicable, opened dates. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function; make quality‑control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems associated with the proper performance of test procedures. Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with any investigation. Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting to physicians. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls and/or work‑practice controls as directed by management. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Work Experience Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 published in March 14, 1990. Preferred Work Experience One (1) to three (3) years of clinical experience preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs not to be lifted without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. May be required to use a variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments demanding significant manual dexterity. Knowledge Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in clinical testing. Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. Skills Detail‑oriented with the ability to work independently, establish priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum efficiency. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact courteously and effectively with supervisors, co‑workers and clients. Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients. Ability to handle client information confidentially. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Education Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (required). Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.‑educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology (preferred). Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification (preferred).
