TEMPORARY Colorado River Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician

Job Overview Temporary position (9 months or less) paying $18.00 per hour, employment starts 05/02/2026 through 10/31/2026. Position is closed when filled. Responsibilities Lead and Non-Lead: primary responsibility to support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non-motorized water recreation groups on the Colorado River at designated boat launches. Tasks include educating outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non-motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and proper cleaning/decontamination, providing surveys, attending user group events and expositions, and educating recreational outfitters. Position reports to the James M. Robb Corn Lake State Park for assignment. In periods without outreach, assist Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists with watercraft inspection and decontamination, quality control assessment, inventory management, editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry. Lead Specific Duties Serve as the lead communicator between the ANS Specialist and crew members Ensure all crew members are respectful and conflict management occurs when needed Ensure the crew has all necessary working equipment and that it is maintained; report problems to the ANS Specialist Host regular check-ins with staff to address ongoing needs Early morning, evening & weekend work required Minimum Qualifications Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays Ability to drive long distances and remain alert Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and late evenings Willingness to be flexible with daily/weekly scheduling due to weather-driven field work Excellent written and verbal communication skills; willingness to approach and engage the public Reliable and timely Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Ability to self‑motivate and work independently Preferred Qualifications Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment Ability to trailer cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public Experience with Microsoft and Google applications Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education Preferred Education Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education. Compliance Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
