Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active Illinois RN license required Certifications: BLS certification; ACLS preferred for Charge RN position Must-Have: 1 year or more of hospital experience preferred Experience in titrating drips, specifically Heparin Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Medical-Surgical Acute Care setting. The unit has 31 beds with both private and semi-private rooms. Nurse-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Ratios may increase in surgical staffing to 1:6 during the day and 1:7 at night. There are 3-4 patient care technicians on day shift and 2-3 on night shift, with ratios adjusting based on census. RNs may be required to manage patients with oxygen requirements up to 6L via nasal cannula, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed. Patients requiring telemetry are monitored remotely by a central telemetry department. There is a 24-hour Charge RN coverage, and the Charge RN may have a patient assignment at times. Registered Nurses are expected to attempt IV starts and may utilize unit resources if unsuccessful. In-house resources include a respiratory therapy team and pharmacy staff available 24/7 for medication preparation. Traveling RNs will follow a holiday rotation policy and are expected to float to other units as needed. Scrubs of any color are acceptable; staff are required to provide their own with no specific pediatric designs. Shifts involve 12-hour durations with shift changes at specified times. Weekend work is required, with RNs working every other weekend. RNs are expected to adhere to the unit's policies and work collaboratively with leadership. The charting system used in this department is EPIC.
