Plumbing Engineering Intern (Available June 2026)

Opportunity Internship in Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering focused on sustainable design. Responsibilities Design plumbing and fire protection systems within the built environment with an emphasis on sustainable design. Support design of domestic water, sanitary/vent, and storm drainage systems. Support design of fire sprinkler and standpipe systems. Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to develop integrated solutions for complex buildings. Undertake and document engineering analysis work, including code research, load calculations, and equipment sizing. Document system design using Revit MEP. Communicate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences using presentations and workshops. Write reports documenting calculation methods, results, design assumptions, and other technical information. Prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and maintain exceptional organization skills. Influence design decisions to achieve sustainable outcomes aligned with Arup sustainability commitment. Assist with construction administration activities such as site visits and submittal reviews. Requirements Required Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering. Completed coursework in fluid hydraulics, piping, or fluid dynamics. Interest in the built environment and sustainable development. Ability to collaborate with clients. Strong time‑management and multitasking skills. Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly. Enthusiastic, initiative‑driven, teamwork‑oriented, and creative. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Presentation skills for various audiences. Eligibility to work in the United States without employer‑sponsored work authorization. Preferred EIT/FE certification. Membership in ASPE, ASSE, ASHRAE, NFPA, or SFPE. Courses in sustainability or USGBC participation. Experience with Revit or other 3D modeling software. Internship or extracurricular experience in an engineering‑related firm. Ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision. History of technical presentations and writing.
