Marketing & Communications Intern The Gathering of Southeast Wisconsin Position Type: Paid Internship Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week Schedule: Flexible; some evening and weekend availability may occasionally be needed Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin; work will take place at The Gathering's meal sites, office, community events, and other locations Reports To: Executive Director/Designated Communications Staff About The Gathering The Gathering of Southeast Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing meals and associated services to people who would otherwise go hungry or without. Through our meal programs, community partnerships, volunteers, and outreach, we work every day to serve our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and respect. We are looking for an energetic, creative student who wants to put their marketing and communications skills to work while gaining hands-on nonprofit experience. Position Summary The Marketing & Communications Intern will help us capture and tell the story of The Gathering . This is not an internship where you will spend 15 hours a week filing papers! We want someone who is comfortable getting out into the community, visiting our meal sites, taking photos and video, talking with staff and volunteers, helping create social media content, and finding creative ways to show people what happens at The Gathering every day. The intern will work approximately 15 hours per week on a flexible schedule designed, when possible, to accommodate the student's class schedule. Key Responsibilities The intern will assist with: Taking high-quality photographs and short videos at meal sites, volunteer activities, special events, fundraisers, and community activities. Creating short-form video content for social media, including reels and other engaging video stories. Assisting with content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, newsletters, and other communications. Developing creative ideas for posts, campaigns, volunteer features, donor recognition, and guest-impact stories. Interviewing staff, volunteers, community partners, and others to help tell The Gathering's story. Helping maintain an organized photo and video library. Assisting with flyers, graphics, event promotions, and other marketing materials. Capturing behind-the-scenes moments that demonstrate what it takes to provide meals throughout the community. Helping promote volunteer opportunities, fundraising campaigns, special events, and community partnerships. Assisting with special communications and marketing projects as assigned. Following The Gathering's policies regarding guest privacy, dignity, photography, and consent. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a college student studying marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media, photography, videography, graphic design, nonprofit management, or a related field . We are looking for someone who is: Creative and enthusiastic. Comfortable taking photographs and video. Familiar with social media platforms and current content trends. A good writer and communicator. Dependable and able to manage their time independently. Comfortable interacting with people from many different backgrounds. Willing to work in active meal-site and community environments. Able to take initiative while also following direction. Respectful of confidentiality and the dignity of the people we serve. Interested in using storytelling to make a difference. Experience with Canva, Adobe products, video-editing applications, photography, or social-media management is helpful but not required . We are also looking for someone who is excited to learn. Transportation Requirement Because this position requires travel between The Gathering's meal sites, office, events, and community locations, the intern must have a valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle . What the Intern Will Gain This internship provides real-world experience in nonprofit marketing and communications. The student will have opportunities to build a professional portfolio while gaining experience in photography, videography, social media, storytelling, community engagement, event marketing, nonprofit communications, and brand development. Most importantly, the intern will have the opportunity to see firsthand how good storytelling can connect people to a mission and strengthen a community. Schedule Approximately 15 hours per week , with flexibility around the student's academic schedule. Because the best stories don't always happen between 9 and 5, occasional early morning, evening, or weekend hours may be requested for meal programs and special events. Compensation This is a paid internship. Compensation: $16.50 per hour. 15 PTO days prorated from date of hire Paid Holidays A Little Gathering Reality Some days you may be photographing volunteers preparing hundreds of meals. Another day you may be filming a community partner, creating a social media reel, interviewing a longtime volunteer, or helping us capture a special event.
