Logistics Manager

Position Summary The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing the movement, storage, staging, and shipment of raw materials, work-in-process, fabricated rebar and finished steel products throughout the manufacturing facility and to customers. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the right material is available at the right time and that finished products are safely, accurately, and efficiently prepared and shipped according to production schedules, customer requirements, and company commitments. The Logistics Manager will oversee logistics planning, transportation, shipping and receiving, material handling, yard operations, inventory accuracy, carrier relationships, and logistics personnel. This position will partner closely with Production, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Procurement, Fabrication Operations, Sales/Customer Service, and other functions to ensure material flow supports plant performance and customer delivery requirements. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, operationally focused leader with experience in a steel mill, steel fabrication, metals manufacturing, heavy industrial, or similarly complex manufacturing environment. Logistics & Material Flow Shipping, Receiving & Transportation Yard & Material Handling Operations Inventory & Material Control Leadership & Team Management Safety & Compliance Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement Cross-Functional Collaboration Key Performance Indicators The Logistics Manager will be accountable for developing and monitoring appropriate logistics metrics, which may include: On-time shipment performance On-time delivery performance Freight and transportation cost Inventory accuracy Shipping and receiving accuracy Material damage and loss Loading/unloading efficiency Carrier performance Logistics labor productivity Overtime utilization Yard utilization and organization Shipment discrepancies Customer delivery issues Safety performance Logistics-related downtime or production interruptions Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. 10+ years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, shipping/receiving, transportation, or material management. 5+ years of leadership or supervisory/management experience. Experience in a steel mill, steel fabrication, metals manufacturing, heavy industrial, construction materials, or comparable manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience managing material flow within a manufacturing or industrial facility. Experience coordinating inbound and outbound transportation and working with outside carriers. Experience managing inventory and material-control processes. Strong understanding of shipping, receiving, loading, unloading, staging, and material-handling operations. Experience leading hourly employees in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize multiple competing operational demands in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to analyze operational data and use metrics to drive decisions. Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a high-volume steel or metals manufacturing environment. Experience with steel products, coils, plate, bar, structural steel, fabricated components, or similar heavy industrial materials. Experience with ERP, WMS, TMS, inventory-management, or production-planning systems. Experience with SAP or another enterprise resource planning system. Experience managing third-party logistics providers and transportation brokers. Knowledge of DOT transportation requirements and load securement practices. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement experience. Experience developing logistics KPIs and dashboards. Experience supporting a startup, plant launch, expansion, or operational-readiness environment. Physical & Work Environment Regular presence in a steel manufacturing and fabrication environment, including production areas, warehouse areas, loading areas, and outdoor yard operations. May be exposed to noise, dust, heat, cold, moving equipment, heavy materials, and other industrial conditions. Must follow all applicable PPE and safety requirements while in designated operational areas. Ability to walk throughout the facility and yard regularly. Ability to climb stairs, access production and storage areas, and work around industrial equipment. Position may require occasional extended hours, weekends, holidays, or schedule adjustments based on production and customer requirements.
