Material Handler

This role focuses on safely handling, kitting, and moving materials within a large aerospace manufacturing environment. The material handler uses a sit-down forklift to support shipping, receiving, and production operations, while accurately verifying paperwork, work orders, and shipping instructions. The position requires strong computer proficiency, clear communication skills, and attention to detail to ensure products are packed, loaded, and unloaded correctly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Verify paperwork, work orders, and shipping instructions to ensure accuracy before processing materials.
• Kit materials according to production and shipping requirements, organizing items in a clear and efficient manner.
• Safely operate a sit-down forklift to move, load, and unload materials and products throughout the warehouse and manufacturing facility.
• Pack boxes and palletize materials for shipment, ensuring items are securely packaged and correctly labeled.
• Perform shipping and receiving activities, including checking incoming and outgoing materials against documentation.
• Load and unload trucks in a safe and timely manner while following facility procedures.
• Handle materials throughout the warehouse, including picking, packing, and staging items for production or shipment.
• Use a computer to enter, update, and verify information related to inventory, work orders, and shipping documentation.
• Communicate clearly with team members and other departments to coordinate material flow and resolve issues.
• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while operating equipment and working on the warehouse floor.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient material handling and safe operations.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency using a computer for data entry, documentation, and basic system navigation.
• Ability to read and write clearly to understand work orders, shipping instructions, and other documentation.
• Ability to operate a sit-down forklift safely; 2 years of forklift experience preferred.
• Experience with material handling tasks such as picking, packing, palletizing, and staging materials.
• Experience in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trucks.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and support smooth workflow.
• Ability to stand for the entire shift as required in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a warehouse worker in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Experience with sit-down forklift operations in a production or warehouse setting.
• Background in packaging and warehouse packing, including preparing materials for shipment.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Willingness to learn and train on additional material handling and equipment procedures.
• Interest in gaining aerospace material handling experience.

Work Environment

The role is based within a large aerospace manufacturing facility that includes warehouse and production areas. The environment involves working around industrial equipment, including sit-down forklifts, and handling materials for shipping and receiving. Candidates may be required to stand for the entire shift while performing material handling, packing, and kitting tasks. The shift runs from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., supporting late-afternoon and evening operations. No vision test is required for this kitter-focused role. Work is performed in a structured, safety-conscious setting where adherence to procedures and safe equipment operation is essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Middletown, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.66 - $22.66/hr.
