Behavior Technician

Under the direction of the Director of SEL and the Office of Family and Community Partnerships and School Principal, the Behavior Technician plays a key role in fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive school climate. This position supports students' social, emotional, and behavioral success by implementing restorative approaches, behavior intervention strategies, and proactive supports that promote accountability, empathy, and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the implementation of the Connecticut School Climate Framework and school-based climate improvement plans.
• Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
• Serve as a visible, accessible support presence during transition times, lunch/recess, and unstructured periods.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate restorative conversations, circles, and conferences to address conflicts and repair harm.
• Assist staff in integrating restorative practices into classroom management and daily routines.
• Work directly with students displaying challenging behaviors to de-escalate situations and teach replacement behaviors.
• Collect behavior data and collaborate with school teams to assess effectiveness of supports.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families to develop individualized strategies for students.
• Participate in Student Support Team (SST), IEP, or 504 meetings as appropriate.
• Maintain detailed records, behavior logs, and data tracking tools.
• Participate in professional development on restorative practices, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and school climate regulations.
• Support the capacity building of staff in restorative practices and positive behavioral supports.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree preferred but not mandatory
• Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or behavioral support setting
• Understanding of restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and behavior de-escalation strategies
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and within a team

• Must be able to respond quickly in crisis situations
• May require some lifting or physical redirection
• Work is performed in a school environment and may involve exposure to student behaviors
