Interim Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager

Interim Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller Our client, a hospitality and recreation organization, is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager / Controller to oversee accounting operations during a period of transition. This role is primarily on-site in the San Francisco Peninsula area. This engagement is anticipated to last 2-3 months, with the potential to extend/convert. Responsibilities: Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and high-volume transaction processing Lead the monthly close and prepare financial reporting packages, reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules Manage accruals and ensure the appropriate accounting treatment of operating expenses and capital expenditures Oversee fixed assets, depreciation, construction-in-progress schedules, and accounting for capital projects Coordinate annual audit, tax, and compliance activities with external service providers Prepare financial forecasts and analyze budgets, operational trends, and business performance to support leadership decisions Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, automation, and financial reporting workflows Mentor accounting team members and partner with operational leaders on accounting and financial matters Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, or similar accounting leader Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls Experience with fixed assets, capital projects, construction-in-progress accounting, and capitalization assessments Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills, with demonstrated ability to lead teams and operate hands‑on in a high-volume environment Compensation: Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors, including but not limited to: The individual’s skill sets, experience, and training; Licensure and certifications; Office location and other geographic considerations; Other business and organizational needs.
