Machine Operator

The Machine Operator sets up, operates, and monitors large-scale production equipment to manufacture non-slip and adhesive products in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role follows detailed work instructions and product specifications, mixes and handles chemical and adhesive solutions safely, and ensures that all finished products meet strict quality standards. The position offers a consistent four-day workweek with built-in overtime opportunities and a three-day weekend every week.

Responsibilities

• Review work orders, product specifications, and special instructions to fully understand production requirements and request clarification when needed.
• Assist with loading materials and setting up machines according to provided instructions and production parameters.
• Follow specifications to accurately mix chemical and adhesive solutions listed in the work order and safely pump solutions into the machine.
• Monitor the production process closely to quickly identify any quality or process issues and take immediate action when problems arise.
• Operate up to two machines competently and assist in operating additional machines as needed to support production demands.
• Follow all instructions given by higher level machine operators and production leadership and ask questions to ensure correct understanding of tasks.
• Correctly identify finished products with accurate part numbers, work order numbers, lot numbers, and all other required product identification details.
• Identify equipment problems or irregularities and promptly inform maintenance personnel and/or production management.
• Make constructive suggestions to improve product quality, production efficiency, workplace safety, or communication within the team.
• Verify that final products meet established quality standards and conform to all product specifications before release.
• Follow all safety practices, immediately correct or report unsafe conditions, and maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area.
• Perform changeovers, basic adjustments, and manual setups as needed to support different product runs, when experienced in these tasks.
• Use basic measuring tools such as tape measures and refer to blueprints or production drawings as needed to support accurate production.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor to support overall production goals.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of machine operating experience in a production or industrial setting.
• At least 2 years of manufacturing experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and write English to follow written work instructions, labels, and production documentation.
• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal work instructions accurately and consistently.
• Experience working non-traditional shifts such as second or third shift in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly as part of daily job duties.
• Hands-on experience with machine operation, including starting, stopping, and monitoring production equipment.
• Ability to assist with machine setups and basic production changeovers.
• Comfort working around large industrial machinery and moving mechanical components.
• Basic troubleshooting ability to recognize and respond to machine or quality issues quickly.
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate product identification and adherence to specifications.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean work environment.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of LAKE BLUFF, IL.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
